Demba Ba is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and a research fellow at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine. He received his Ph.D. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics, and his doctoral thesis was supervised by Prof. Emery N. Brown.
Demba's research focuses on understanding how neurons change their connectivity in response to sensory or behavioral stimuli and developing new models of time-varying network connectivity that imposes physiologically-motivated constraints. He has also applied compressive sensing techniques to the problem of estimating structured time-frequency representations, leading to a more precise delineation of the spectral signatures of general anesthesia induced using the drug propofol.
