Murray Shanahan is a Professor of Cognitive Robotics at Imperial College London and a Senior Research Scientist at DeepMind. He received a First in Computer science from Imperial College in 1984 and a Ph.D. in computer Science from Cambridge University in 1988. His research interests span artificial intelligence, robotics, cognitive science, logic, dynamical systems, computational neuroscience, and philosophy of mind.

Murray has held various academic positions throughout his career, including as a postdoc at Imperial College, an EPSRC advanced research fellow at Queen Mary & Westfield College (London), and a lecturer and senior lecturer at Imperial College. He has been a professor at Imperial since 2006 and joined DeepMind in 2017 while continuing his professorship part-time.

Murray has published several books, including "Embodiment and the Inner Life" (2010) and "The Technological Singularity" (2015), and has been a scientific advisor for the film Ex Machina. He is also active in public engagement, appearing on various BBC programs and at science festivals worldwide. Murray enjoys spending time with his family in North Norfolk in his free time.
